Jim Irwin, 07MBA and Alix Rice, 13EMBA hosted a group of over 20 Goizueta students and alumni for a tour of the iconic Ponce City Market project. The 2.1 million square feet building located at 675 Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta is being redeveloped by James-town Properties as a mixed use development.
Originally the Sears, Roebuck and Company Distribution Center, the City of Atlanta purchased the building in 1990 to house employees and renamed it City Hall East. Upon Jamestown‘s acquisition in July 2011, it was named Ponce City Market. Interior demolitions began in 2011 and the project will open in 2014 in one phase and be a mix of commercial office space, retail, dining, entertainment and residential space. The property is situated at the crossroads of Midtown, Poncey Highland, Old Fourth Ward, and Virginia Highland. It backs up to the new Fouth Ward Park and is situated on the Atlanta Belt- Line.

Launched in April 2007, the Real Estate Program at Goizueta Business School was developed in response to the industry’s growing demand for MBA caliber graduates. Roy T. Black, who has taught part-time at Goizueta since 1999, was brought on to spearhead the program. Prior to entering academia, he spent 15 years as a real estate attorney. The program trains students in the nuances of the real estate industry, placing emphasis on factors that make up the market and the intricacies of properties as an asset in money management.
