Emory will celebrate Pride Month with events to engage LGBTQ+ students and employees as well as allies all month long. Throughout June, the entire Emory community can explore programs that address multiple aspects of LGBTQ+ identity.
The Emory Pride Employee Network (EPEN) will host events on and off campus to connect LGBTQ+ employees and allies across the university. EPEN is one of five employee resource groups created by Emory University Human Resources to provide a sense of community for people from historically underrepresented groups.
Here are a few events to look forward to during Pride Month:
1. Starting Monday, June 10, head to the first floor of the Oxford College Library to check out the Pride Month book display. Titles will focus on trans athletes in honor of the Summer Olympics, which start in July.
2. Add some flair to your favorite jacket or bag at the free Emory Libraries Pride Month button-making session. Taking place in the entrance of Woodruff Library on the Atlanta campus, anyone can stop by on Tuesday, June 11, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
In addition to making a button, keep up with new additions to Homosaurus vocabulary in the library catalog. Historically, the classification and cataloging of LGBTQ+ materials in libraries have been less than inclusive. The Homosaurus is an internationally linked data vocabulary of LGBTQ+ terms that will make Emory’s resources relevant, representative, and easier to find.
3. EPEN will participate in Pride Night with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, June 18, at 7:20 p.m. when the Atlanta Braves play the Detroit Tigers. The Pride Night ticket package includes admission to the pregame party, starting at 5:20 at the Coca-Cola Roxy, a game ticket, a special Atlanta Braves Pride baseball cap and a donation to the OUT Georgia Impact Fund, powered by United Way of Greater Atlanta. The OUT Georgia Impact Fund supports nonprofit organizations and small businesses that serve the LGBTQ+ community.
4. EPEN is also sponsoring a Queer History event called “GAYTL Summit” on Thursday, June 20, starting at 10 a.m. in Atwood Chemistry Center, Room 260. The summit will feature informal roundtable conversations on LGBTQIA+ Atlanta History followed by a catered lunch-and-learn with a keynote speaker. All Emory and Atlanta community members are welcome to join.
