“As we approach Veterans Day, I wanted to share with you how Goizueta alumni are creating a positive impact in supporting veterans,” writes Lieutenant General (Ret.) U.S. Army Ken Keen. Keen serves Goizueta as associate dean for leadership development and senior lecturer of Organization and Management. “I had the honor to be part of a ceremony where MBA alum Tom Beaty 97MBA, Founder and CEO of ISG and SpendHQ, donated $20,000 to the Veterans Empowerment Organization, which was founded in 2008 to address the lack of services available to homeless veterans in Atlanta.”
Keen shared that “this donation honored the nonprofit Witness to War, that Beaty founded in 2001 with the mission to ‘Preserve, Honor, and Educate’. They just recorded their 3,000th interview of a combat veteran with Tony Kimbrough, who is the CEO of the Veterans Empowerment Organization.”
The Witness to War Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), was founded in 2001 by Atlanta-based entrepreneur Tom Beaty. The Foundation is dedicated to capturing the stories of individual combat veterans. The organization’s storytelling focus is made clear on its website, “It is about the ‘foxhole’ or ‘windshield’ view of combat as seen by the soldiers, sailors, and airmen who experienced it. It is about the fear, the emotions, the training, and the previously untapped wells of personal courage that enabled ordinary individuals to survive, and in some cases thrive, under extraordinary pressures and almost unimaginable danger.”
The Witness to War Foundation is dedicated to understanding, as much as possible, what it was like to ‘be there’ and is committed to preserving the oral histories of combat veterans and has recorded a total of 8,081 videos to date.
