After a national search, Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and the Emory Office of Development and Alumni Relations has announced the hiring of a new Assistant Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.
David Mainella has more than 20 years experience in fundraising and external communications. Most recently, Mainella served as Executive Director of Development and External Relations at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Massey Cancer Center. Under Mainella’s direction VCU successfully completed the $100 million Research for Life Campaign.
Mainella will assume his role at Emory on May 18 and work exclusively with the business school, its programs and alumni.
“I am very excited to welcome David to the Goizueta Community,” Dean Erika James said. “In today’s business school environment, it is imperative to have the proper resources and build quality, long-lasting relationships. I am looking forward to working with David in expanding Goizueta’s reach in this area.
“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Jeff Colburn for his commitment to Goizueta and his tremendous efforts while serving as the interim director.”
In his career, Mainella has stewarded many major gifts and has produced marked increases in annual and overall giving. He has also served at Duke University, North Carolina State University, The Johns Hopkins University and Bradley University (his alma mater).
Mainella is an active speaker, presenting on topics regarding emotional intelligence, development and board management. He is the past director of the Bradley University Alumni Association Board and past board member of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives.
“David will help Goizueta Business School in a number of ways,” said Bill Kotti, Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni for Emory University. “He is a perfect fit for Emory given his background in medical research and higher education. I’d like to join Dean James in welcoming David to campus.”
